It's a recurring theme here at redneckin Central
"If it's a good idea, let private industry do it with private money" preferably on their own private land
The one I was most infamously right on was the Summit Hospital and it's subsequent collapse. In this case, the taxpayer voter was right and the politicians, bureaucrats, corporate lobbyists and news media; Wrong.
Notice this line
"A few months before the legislature awarded its license to TransCanada this July, Conoco and BP suddenly announced they'd be building their own pipeline with no state inducements whatsoever. They'd suddenly found the money."
It seems to be a recurring theme when your political class isn't either cowed or in the hip pockets of special interest
Not worth a bucket of warm spit? Or
"Is Sarah Palin qualified to preside over the United States Senate? After all, that is the only job function of the vice-presidency specified in the Constitution. Yet Palin friends and foes alike obsess over her "qualifications" for the presidency -- an office she's not actually running for."
Historically, according to the article, there is only a 15% chance that she would have to take over the presidency and that includes the number of presidents that could have been saved by modern medicine. So, why is the VP the head of the Senate?
Connecticut's Roger Sherman said it was to give him Something to do.
And
do we really need the VP to do anything besides sit at home next to the telephone?

I'll tell you one thing
The press is talking about how well the McCain campaign vetted Ms Paline.
I figure McCain vetted her better than the press has vetted Obama who still has a lot of questions that should be answered about his Illinois background
I see Sonny Coulter
has been elected mayor of Phenix City.....yet again.
So I suppose that congratulations are in order

The more interesting question
that could be raised from
this post is "Not Palin supports gays sharing benefits with other than spouse", but why is Obama, who supposedly supports gay rights, telling you
" A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for gay marriage."
like there is something wrong with it

While TalkLeft

" "My first reaction to John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for VP: He just gave the election to Barack Obama.""
My own first reaction was that "McCain might just win this thing after all"
Richard
asked me if the selection of Palin would change my “non” voting plans for this fall
An uptick in the search engines keywords and the location of the searchers gave me a hint about Palin being a serious contender. And there was a lot of chatter in the blogsphere about her a couple of weeks ago.
I was scared that McCain would go with one of the “white bread” guys and that would have taken my vote completely off the table. Romney (and not it wasn’t about his religion. He was just to plastic and I feared he was malleable on principles as politics required), Liberman, (to liberal), Hutchinson (to bland), etc.
Palin was the logical choice, If not Jindal. I figured that Jindal didn’t bring much to the voting booth, demographic wise. Palin struck me as a persuasive, solid, conservative who could sway the soccer moms.
Of course, my knowledge of her is slight and my opinion of her might change depending on what is brought out about her
Will it change my “not” voting on the presidential ticket?
For that we have to look at a few past posts
First up
Where I hedged my non-voting credentials in 05 when I noted what was, at that time, the only thing would have me vote for McCain
Then I spoke of my not jumping on the McCain bandwagon in Jan of 08,
using a link to a Day By Day cartoon
At the same time, I began to realize that Obama (and the leftist liberals who were taking over the party from the more pragmatic Clintonites)
were more dangerous and less likely to compromise except on their own terms
This may shock some of you, but my personal preference on the Democrat side is Hillary. She's cold, calculating and will constantly be triangulating every position. It has it's dangers as the liberal side constantly chip away at our rights such as the second, but Obama is a bigger danger.
He is an unabashed full blown liberal on the socialist world wide order side of things. He believes that the Constitution has no true meaning. Instead it changes with the times and popular will. "Constitution is a living document; no strict constructionism. "
So it’s a strong possibility that I’ll vote for a Pal
er I mean McCain/Palin, if not for the
local candidate who also shares at least
one of my views
Now, if McCain loses or retires after one term, how about a “Palin/Jindal is swell in 12” campaign?

Rumor is
that McCain might select a woman as VP running mate.
Smart money is on Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a rather bland choice, in my ever so humble opinion.
If its to be a woman, I still think that
Sarah Heath Palin is the way to go. That way you give the Conservatives some hope for the future.
If male, I'd go with Louisiana governor
Jindal for the same reason
Mugabe 2?
Is Obama really into sending political opponents to jail?
Looks like it
And there's a pattern of this type of thuggish behavior from the Obama camp. Question is "is it third world politics or just Chicago politics as usual?
But to be fair, all the Democrats as a whole have demanded investigations and trials for their political opponents from the current lame duck administration.
I'd be careful of setting a precedent if I was them
If ya'll think
that Obama's brownshirt reaction in trying to get the U.S. Justice department to stop critics is over the top, just wait to see what it's like if he gets elected president with a veto/filibuster proof
"Obama campaign lawyer Robert Bauer has warned station managers suggesting their broadcast license might be at risk: "Your station is committed to operating in the public interest, an objective that cannot be satisfied by accepting for compensation material of such malicious falsity."
Bauer has also written twice to the Justice Department demanding "prompt action to investigate and to prosecute" Simmons and AIP for violation of campaign laws and individual contribution limits. The problem is that, as the Annenberg papers show, the ad is breathtakingly true and accurate. "
The threats to advertisers, alone, would be enough to get the East Alabama Cheerleader and, as many claim, the DownTown Columbus paper to ignore the whole situation
Barack Obama's campaign hasn't advertised this a great deal this week, but the campaign's "Action Wire" has been waging large-scale campaigns against critics. That includes tens of thousands of e-mails to television stations running Harold Simmons' Bill Ayers ad, and to their advertisers — including a list of major automobile and telecommunications companies.

Most know
my opinion of the United Way.
They do good with some of the the money.
The question is
whose good?
"For months, the United Way of Central Carolinas board said Gloria Pace King was worth every penny of her controversial $1.2 million pay package."
But, I thought
they said "they" only do jobs that the citizens won't do
About 30 cars were lined up in front of Howard Industries’ Laurel plant today filled with people looking for jobs.
Local paper
“It started Monday afternoon when people started hearing the news,” Hosey said. “Tuesday morning, we definitely have had an increase in traffic from people interested in jobs at Howard

what brought on the change from
Segall's initial plan
"Next month, Joshua Segall will head to Denver to drum up interest in his congressional campaign, but fellow Democrat Bobby Bright will be at home in Alabama, stumping for votes and donations in his bid to go to Washington."
Maybe he figured out that his support needed to be the voters in his district and not the liberal powers that be at the Democrats national convention.
Instead of pressing the flesh at what would have been his first convention, District 3 Democratic challenger Joshua Segall is on the campaign trail here in Alabama.

What makes the ICE
raid in Laurel Mississippi so interesting, besides the 600+ possible illegal immigrants detained is
this line that is missing from most reports that follow
"In 2002, then-Gov. Ronnie Musgrove called a special Legislative session in which lawmakers approved a $31.5 million, taxpayer-backed incentive plan aimed at helping Howard Industries expand its operations. The state required the company to create 2,000 new jobs - 700 by 2007 and another 1,300 by 2012."
Yep, the citizens paid for a company to create jobs for illegals

but despite claims that Bobby Bright, Josh Segall, and other "conservative democrats (oxymoron?) running for office in Alabama would be "independent", the Liberals are fully in charge of the national party.

That's right, the committee heads.
And how are the committee heads generally selected?
That's right, Seniority.
And who holds the most seniority?

is enthusiastic with Obama's choice of Biden
"Joe Biden is a straight talker about the need for common sense laws to keep dangerous people from getting dangerous weapons," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.....
Senator Biden has a comprehensive crime bill awaiting action in the Senate (S. 2237) that would require background checks on all sales at gun shows and reauthorize the now-expired federal ban on military-style assault weapons.
Hmmm, if Brady likes Obama and Biden, that's enough for me. Of course, I wasn't going to vote for them to begin with

What I perceive
as a slightly ironic note in Obama’s choice of Biden as his VP running mate is that Biden authored the law that set up
the position of “Drug Czar”.
Most of you know that
I’m highly critical of the War on Drugs ™, in general.
I also view “the war” as being used for the disenfranchisement of black drug users and minor dealers. Yeah,
I agree with the American Civil Liberties Union. Got that stuff that just spewed out of your nose, cleaned up?
It amounts to a terrible dilution of the black vote and renders votes that would change the direction, if not end the war invalid.
But still, blacks will vote for the Obama/Biden team.
Why?
What’s the alternative? McCain?
Speaking of McCain, a good tactical move would be for him to select
Sarah Heath Palin the current Governor of Alaska
The Agitator weighs in with
a host of thoughts
He’s an overly ambitious, elitist, tunnel-visioned, Potomac-fevered Beltway dinosaur, with all the trappings. He may well have been the worst possible pick among congressional Democrats when it comes to the drug war and criminal justice.
While Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3rd)
stresses his votes that were not along party lines as a way of showing his "independence".
I to noted
his maverick ways, ( a
few times.
Ok, a bunch) if you can call voting for all the pork you can get as maverick.
Speaking of horses
Of course, considering the state of the Republican party, maybe that's not so unusual.
And, this is Alabama where we get back more federal taxpayer dollars than we pay in
Would Josh Segall be any better?
Not likely. Indeed, you would just be solidifying the liberal Democrats hold on where the true power is--the committee chairmanships.
A pox on both their houses.
Sigh. And not even a
