It's a recurring theme here at redneckin Central

"If it's a good idea, let private industry do it with private money" preferably on their own private land
The one I was most infamously right on was the Summit Hospital and it's subsequent collapse. In this case, the taxpayer voter was right and the politicians, bureaucrats, corporate lobbyists and news media; Wrong.

Notice this line
"A few months before the legislature awarded its license to TransCanada this July, Conoco and BP suddenly announced they'd be building their own pipeline with no state inducements whatsoever. They'd suddenly found the money."

It seems to be a recurring theme when your political class isn't either cowed or in the hip pockets of special interest

"Is Sarah Palin qualified to preside over the United States Senate? After all, that is the only job function of the vice-presidency specified in the Constitution. Yet Palin friends and foes alike obsess over her "qualifications" for the presidency -- an office she's not actually running for."

Historically, according to the article, there is only a 15% chance that she would have to take over the presidency and that includes the number of presidents that could have been saved by modern medicine. So, why is the VP the head of the Senate?

Connecticut's Roger Sherman said it was to give him Something to do.

And do we really need the VP to do anything besides sit at home next to the telephone?

has been elected mayor of Phenix City.....yet again.

So I suppose that congratulations are in orderfor me having the foresight to put into motion my escape plans.

Actually, that's not really fair as it's only partially true.
I wasn't a big fan of any candidate and was hard on Sonny, as a previous mayor and a candidate.

I will say that many of Phenix City's current troubles can be lain at the feet of Mayor Jeff Hardin, and councilmembers, Bush, Brantley and Sumbry.
In between paying sales taxes for parts of Lee County/Phenix City, using part of the money for purchasing the Triangle to build soccer fields, Buying the Triangle to give to a tax consuming Troy State, redoing the downtown that never was...... they don't have the money for necessary infrastructure (Sewer and water) upgrades and repairs. That means drastically higher water and sewer fees in perpetuity. Fees that that will no doubt having them cast blame on most anybody besides themselves

asked me if the selection of Palin would change my “non” voting plans for this fall

An uptick in the search engines keywords and the location of the searchers gave me a hint about Palin being a serious contender. And there was a lot of chatter in the blogsphere about her a couple of weeks ago.

I was scared that McCain would go with one of the “white bread” guys and that would have taken my vote completely off the table. Romney (and not it wasn’t about his religion. He was just to plastic and I feared he was malleable on principles as politics required), Liberman, (to liberal), Hutchinson (to bland), etc.

Palin was the logical choice, If not Jindal. I figured that Jindal didn’t bring much to the voting booth, demographic wise. Palin struck me as a persuasive, solid, conservative who could sway the soccer moms.
Of course, my knowledge of her is slight and my opinion of her might change depending on what is brought out about her

Will it change my “not” voting on the presidential ticket?

For that we have to look at a few past posts

First up
Where I hedged my non-voting credentials in 05 when I noted what was, at that time, the only thing would have me vote for McCain

Then I spoke of my not jumping on the McCain bandwagon in Jan of 08, using a link to a Day By Day cartoon

At the same time, I began to realize that Obama (and the leftist liberals who were taking over the party from the more pragmatic Clintonites) were more dangerous and less likely to compromise except on their own terms

This may shock some of you, but my personal preference on the Democrat side is Hillary. She's cold, calculating and will constantly be triangulating every position. It has it's dangers as the liberal side constantly chip away at our rights such as the second, but Obama is a bigger danger.
He is an unabashed full blown liberal on the socialist world wide order side of things. He believes that the Constitution has no true meaning. Instead it changes with the times and popular will. "Constitution is a living document; no strict constructionism. "

So it’s a strong possibility that I’ll vote for a Pal er I mean McCain/Palin, if not for the local candidate who also shares at least one of my views

Now, if McCain loses or retires after one term, how about a “Palin/Jindal is swell in 12” campaign?
